The primary objective at MLB was (since it was acquired in 2016) to make legal research easier for lawyers – by producing law reports, indexes and computer databases. Its law reports were produced in books and in Internet databases. They received judicial decisions from court offices throughout Canada and from the United Kingdom Supreme Court. The decisions were read, classified and edited by the MLB editors who create the material for headnotes and indexes for our reporters. Typists created copy for our electronic and print products. Maritime Law Book owned and operated its own web servers and print shop. Binding of the MBL books were outsourced.

MLB published 14 law reporters that covered every jurisdiction in Canada, except Quebec.

MLB wass located in Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada, a capital city on the Saint John River. MLB was owned by New Brunswick residents. MLB was founded in 1969 and had 32 employees.
